Analysis of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources For Developing Economies: Successes and Challenges

This special issue is aimed at providing examples of current research and other activities related to the assessment of the impacts of climate change on water resources in developing economies. The recent 4 th Assessment Report by the IPCC [1] has put to rest any lingering doubts that our climate is changing and that the changes are largely due to human activities. The impacts of climate change on water resources, such as lower rainfall and its associated runoff, disappearing rivers and natural lakes, increased evapotranspiration leading to higher irrigation water withdrawals, dwindling groundwater stocks, and increased temperature effects on water quality and pollution exacerbation, are being felt in both developed and developing economies [2]. In the other extreme are frequent flooding incidences that are causing untold hardship and misery to millions of people around the world.
